A few weeks ago, I unexpectedly got to attend the Formula 1 race here in Singapore. My friend Erna got 2 tickets for the Friday night. I was actually pretty excited because I’ve never been before and we got FREE tickets!
The F1 race weekend is a pretty big deal here in Singapore as they shut down many of the streets downtown for the race track and festivities. Also, it’s pretty loud and you can hear the race cars if you are down near the Marina Bay area. Plus, there’s usually a lot of hype with all the concerts that occur. This year Justin Bieber, Rihanna, the Killers, Big Bang were some of the headliners that performed. I was hoping on getting a TOP or GDragon kpop sighting, but no luck. Oh well, luckily I’m not that big of a fan.
Honestly, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I don’t know much about F1 racing and I have no idea what I’m really supposed to be looking for. We sat at the stands near City Hall MRT, and saw some of the practice runs and the qualifying race. We were prepared with our ear plugs and camera phone in hand. It’s a bit harder getting photos of the cars as they are awfully fast and loud. I didn’t know who I was supposed to be rooting for and it’s really hard to tell who is who. Other than having no idea what was really going on with the actual racing, it was pretty cool to witness it! There were a lot of booths set up for food and drinks plus stages set up for the concerts. It was a fun vibe and I would definitely go again!
